The Korean Agency for Technology and Standards (KATS) under Ministry of Knowledge Economy has organized the “South Korea-EU smart grid cooperation team,” which means that Korea paves the way for entering the world market for the smart grid (the intellectual power grid).
The KATS said on March 29 that it formed “the cooperation team” which is designed to help domestic companies to enter the global smart grid market, and agreed to establish a cooperation channel for setting technology standards after having talked to smart grid powerhouses such as Germany and France. This cooperation channel will be led by the private sector.
To expand the smart grid industry to the world market, international standards to enable the compatibility between products and system should be first established. These countries are actively engaged in the cooperation activities in setting international technology standards to ensure that their technologies become a part of the international standards and enter easily into the world market.
The KATS plans to focus on vitalizing the domestic smart grid industry, which is in a substantiation stage, on our advanced IT technologies and exporting relevant products through the cooperation with EU in the area of technology standards.
To meet this end, the KATS will maintain the relations with the U.S. for cooperation in the technology standardization. In addition, the agency will carry out its strategy for international standardization activities centered on private sector considering the priority projects and areas possible for the cooperation with European countries.
